Global agri-science company
Senior Backend / Data Engineer
Plant-biotechnology R&D data platform
Owned backend and data engineering for a plant-biotechnology R&D platform: governed reference data, recoverable migrations, authorization and scientific search, with production readiness and team handoff in scope.
Client name withheld. This case study describes responsibilities and outcomes at a capability level.
What shipped.
The work that reached production.
- Released data, migration, authorization and scientific-search capabilities into production.
- Made data ownership and release decisions explicit through tests, audit evidence and written decision records.
- Delivered tools and documentation the team uses for development, review and handoff.
The context.
A global agri-science company needed reliable scientific data and a safe path from legacy systems into its product platform. My contract covered backend and data engineering with staff-level responsibility for integration, release decisions and readiness evidence.
A key decision I owned.
I chose reviewed data snapshots with explicit ownership and reconciliation checks. Publication stops when checks fail, giving the team a clear basis for release decisions.
What I built.
- Governed reference-data publication with source ownership, lineage and reconciliation before release.
- Recoverable legacy migration and health audits that give the team evidence for production readiness.
- Authorization improvements and scientific sequence-search capabilities.
- Developer tools for handoff, isolated environments and review, plus audit and documentation workflows built with Claude Code.
